While fixing issues in legacy software re. folders/files created in 'Program
Files', I have been using the following shell consts on XP to try and ensure
that oridinary users have read/write permissions by default:
1) User-specific files in CSIDL_APPDATA, ($23)
2) Machine-wide config files on CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS, ($2E)
Has anyone tried these paths on Vista? I have googled but there are
conflicting reports. Can my oridinary users write to CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS
on Vista or will it be virtualized away to some black-hole folder?
Normally, I could just try it, but my corporate IT dept have made a
sensible decision to ban the installation of Vista on company machines and
connection of Vista to the company networks 'until it works'. May be some
time....
Rgds,
Martin
