Thanks much for your time responding to all this.
I requested some information from my customer concerning the areas this will
be used so I can research providers and ask them about computer interfaces
and what phone hardware is necessary. Ideally a USB cable to a cell phone
would be perfect as long as I have an API I can call. Of course unlimited
text messaging would be a bonus.
As long as the cell provider has an email alias for the cell phone as most
do I think this will work great. A minute or two lag time for messages is no
big deal at all. I might even consider adding a USB GSM module for vehicle
tracking. It could just send an SMS every few minutes each day.
All in all, this sounds like a workable solution. It is close to real-time
and cost effective.
