Yes - I suggested telnet to prove out the connection. Often, a simple
telnet connection will connect to such a port straight off & allow you
to type at, and receive data from, the remote COM port.
Once so reassured, I agree that the OP should use a 'real' TCP client,
(eg ICS), to connect to the port and communicate with the remote peripheral.
