I need clarification on the best thing to do. After changing from a
phpBB2 forum to an ISP forum I've been advised to do a 301 permanent
redirect from -

mysite.co.uk/phpBB2/    to   mysite.co.uk/forums/

However, I suspect this is wrong because I expect all Google links
would try to find the exact thread or post Google spidered on the new
forum but it won't exist because the structure, and most thread titles
and posts are different.

Would it be better to do a 301 permanent redirect to a single page
explaining the forum has moved and giving a link to the new forum as
well as other search options?

Would there be a problem with hundreds of Google's links suddenly
being redirected to a single page?
